Who can volunteer?
We are an equal-access opportunity provider. We welcome involvement from anyone regardless of race, religion, physical ability or sexual orientation.
What skills are needed?
We are looking for friendly individuals who are interested in helping others and contributing to the LGBTQ community. Knowledge of the community and its issues is an asset, but is also something that you will learn as you volunteer here.
All volunteers complete an application form (PDF reader required) indicating your skills and interests. Each volunteer is personally interviewed to determine more about your interests and how the Pride Centre can best put your skills to use. All volunteer positions require a clear background and security clearance check.
We respect the ideas and input of each volunteer. We will provide training and meaningful opportunities for you to learn and contribute. We recognize the importance of volunteers and want your experience with the Pride Centre to be as positive as possible. In return, we ask that volunteers follow through with their commitments and approach their volunteer activities in the professional manner our clients expect.
Volunteers are needed in the following positions:
Perform light administrative work.
Greet members, and help members with resources, library and other Centre services.
Help people and groups use the Centre.
Help clean and care for the Centre.
Great opportunity to learn about and interact with many people and organizations in our LGBT*Q community.
Host shifts are 3 hours long once, twice or four times a month.
Help with special events (fundraisers, information tables, social events).
Tasks include setup, take down, information table hosting, and fundraising activities.
Great opportunity to take part in LGBT*Q events inside and outside the Centre.
Special events occur once every 4-6 weeks.
Support the Centre’s Youth Programs.
Youth activities include music classes, recreation, social groups, and art projects.
Great opportunity to mentor LGBTQ youth.
Youth programs run every week. There are many shifts available throughout the week.
Tasks include light maintenance, cleaning, and organizing/sorting.
Helps to make the Centre a warm and welcoming space.
Maintenance help is needed on a daily basis.
Volunteer hours are flexible.
Please note that a criminal record check is required for all volunteers. The Pride Centre of Edmonton covers this cost if you a City of Edmonton resident. We accept volunteers who have a criminal record on a case-by-case basis.
